Welcome to The Invasive Species Management Initiative

We are providing free treatment services to landowners

Adirondack Research is administering the free Invasive Species Management Initiative (ISMI). This initiative, which offers invasive species management, is made possible through generous private donations and is operating under the fiscal sponsorship of the Rotary Foundation. This initiative offers the opportunity management of invasive species on private and municipally-owned land. As a Saranac Lake based business, Adirondack Research is offering our expertise and services free of charge to property owners and municipalities within the Adirondack Park.

Why are we doing this?

Invasive species such as Japanese knotweed, phragmites, and wild parsnip pose a significant threat to the biodiversity and ecological strength of Adirondack Park by outcompeting and displacing native plant species. The mission of the ISMI is to control and manage these invasive plant populations, ensuring the health and longevity of the Park’s native ecosystems. Through The Invasive Species Management Initiative (ISMI), we provide specialized treatment plans at no cost to the owner. We are providing these services free of charge because of generous donations. We welcome further support of ISMI through tax-deductible donations to the Rotary Foundation. This program is in addition and complimentary to the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program. Their program focuses on ecologically significant, public and Department of Transportation Right of Way infestations.

How It Works

  1. Free Consultation: Property owners within the Adirondack Park can reach out to us for a free consultation. Our team will assess the invasive species threat on your property and propose a treatment plan.
  2. Customized Treatment: We will provide herbicide treatment of select invasive plant species, pending our grant funding, throughout the 2024 field season.
  3. Continued Support: We offer continued support and advice. This includes planning follow-up treatments in 2025, advising on long-term management, and assisting with treatment reporting to the states database, iMapInvasives.
