Lee Nellis

Community Planner

Lee was elected a member of the College of Fellows of the American Planning Association in recognition of innovative contributions to planning for rural landscapes throughout the U.S. This included his work as a member of the team that took the USDA Land Evaluation Site Assessment system beyond its original concept to become a more user-friendly and accurate method of comparing parcels for conservation purposes. Lee’s contributions to that work included presentations, a book chapter, preparing training materials, leading trainings throughout the U.S. for the USDA, the Soil and Water Conservation Society, university extension services, local governments, and land trusts, including the American Farmland Trust; and developing local LESA systems. He has also successfully tackled many other landscape and community planning issues in his various roles as an academician and consultant, on staff for cities, counties, and towns; and in the nonprofit sector.
