Field Internship at Intervale Lowlands Preserve

Intervale Lowlands Preserve in Lake Placid, NY is seeking a highly motivated person to assist with 2015  summer field ecology activities. As a field intern, you will assist with our ongoing monitoring program, research projects, and outreach activities. This position runs from late April or early May until September. Pay is $12/hour.

Intervale Lowlands Preserve has partnered with Adirondack Research and the Wildlife Conservation Society to develop a long-term monitoring plan to detect and mitigate the effects of climate change. This monitoring plan consists of preserve-wide surveys of flora and fauna, including rare plants, flowers, invasive species, insect pollinators, birds, mammals, amphibians, and other species. Phenology and weather monitoring is also a large part of the program. We are seeking a field intern to carry out much of the survey effort in the summer months. Experience with field techniques, including plant identification, insect sorting and pinning, photography, and surveying transects is desired. Much of the work is computer-based and includes data entry, website maintenance, online database management, and coordination with online citizen science networks.

Intervale Lowlands is located on 135 acres bordering the West branch of the Ausable River near Lake Placid, NY. Typical work days are Monday-Friday from 9-5. Transportation to and from the site is required.
